BLTA Commitment to Sustainability

At BLTA (Brazilian Luxury Travel Association), we believe that sustainability is more than a choice — it is an undeniable responsibility. It is not enough to simply sustain; we must regenerate, transform, and leave a legacy that transcends generations.

We are committed to integrating ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles at the core of our practices and decisions, promoting luxury tourism that respects nature, values communities, and fosters transparent and ethical relationships with all stakeholders.

Luxury tourism plays a strategic role in Brazil’s socio-economic development and environmental preservation. BLTA-affiliated hotels and DMCs share the commitment to generate positive impact by valuing local culture, empowering professionals, conserving nature, and strengthening communities.

BLTA hotels invest heavily in staff training, employing on average three times more team members per room compared to conventional tourism. They support local agriculture, craftsmanship, and traditional knowledge while establishing Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPNs) to ensure the effective protection of local flora and fauna within their properties.

DMCs play a key role in designing authentic and conscious travel itineraries, connecting travelers to destinations in a respectful and transformative way. They incorporate social and environmental projects into their experiences, creating opportunities for meaningful interaction with local communities and raising awareness of conservation and regeneration efforts. These encounters foster genuine connections — whether through visits to impactful local initiatives or immersions in cultural knowledge — that transform both the traveler and the host community.

Brazil, the world’s greatest biodiversity powerhouse, combines lush nature, rich culture, and unique hospitality, positioning itself as the ideal destination for regenerative, high-value tourism.

Our vision for the future is clear: to become a global benchmark in sustainable luxury tourism in Brazil, serving as an example and inspiration for the entire industry. To achieve this, our journey is based on open dialogue, collective action, and effective collaboration.

We commit to:

By 2029, being an association where 100% of members are ESG-certified.

The accepted certifications must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Cover all three ESG pillars (Environmental, Social, and Governance);

  2. Not be self-declared — external auditing is required;

  3. Be issued by internationally recognized certification bodies;

  4. Require periodic recertification based on concrete evidence, within cycles of 1 to 3 years;

  5. Certifications aligned with the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council) standards are automatically accepted by BLTA.

We recognize that this transformation cannot happen in isolation but through the power of collective effort. The path to truly sustainable luxury tourism requires active listening, continuous dialogue, genuine commitment, and the courage to innovate. Throughout this process, BLTA reaffirms its role as a facilitator, guide, and opinion leader — inspiring and supporting its members on their journey toward ESG certification.

With the engaged participation of members, the sharing of best practices, the strengthening of community relationships, and the establishment of strategic partnerships, we will build a new standard of excellence for Brazilian tourism — one that integrates purpose, regeneration, and socio-environmental responsibility.

This manifesto represents not only a formal commitment but also a call to continuous action, constant improvement, and the construction of a legacy that values the present while preserving the future. May every step taken by BLTA and its members strengthen Brazil's image as a responsible, ethical, and transformative luxury destination on the global stage.

The future is now — and it will be sustainable.
